We have so many exciting things planned for Science Week! On Tuesday, two professors from the Department of Medicine in UCD will visit us to do experiments, including showing 5th and 6th class how to extract DNA from strawberries! On Thursday, the amazing Space Dome will visit our school and all pupils will have the opportunity to explore our universe through their amazing interactive show. Finally, on Friday all classes will take part in our annual Super Science Quiz! We can't wait for these exciting activities! |
Heritage in Schools
Classes 1st to 6th took part in Heritage in Schools workshops with Francesca Caddedu on Wednesday 5th of November. The workshops included a fascinating presentation on the origins of Samhain and the Irish archaeological heritage connected to it. Francesca then worked on a variety of crafts related to Samhain. A wonderful day exploring the ancient Celtic festival.
Children's Book Festival - Meeting Author Tatyana Feeney
As part of the Meath Children's Book Festival, First and Second Class attended a workshop with children's author and illustrator Tatyana Feeney in Ashbourne Library this week. Tatyana read her new book Skipping Stones to us and we took part in a wonderful art activity where we created monsters of all sorts! We had a lovely morning and enjoyed chatting to Tatyana about her writing and illustrations.
Thank you Emerald Park for another amazing Wellbeing Day!
Cycle & Climb Coffee Morning at St. Andrew's N.S.
|
We were delighted to host a coffee morning on Friday 5th of September for the Cycle and Climb fundraiser. We raised €300. The cyclists were delighted with the children's artwork and their enthusiastic send off. Thank you to all who came to support.
The cyclists successfully completed the cycle on Saturday and they climbed Croagh Patrick on Sunday morning. Former St. Andrew's teacher Ms McWalter organised posters, welcoming the Meath cyclists, to be displayed in the local school at the base of Croagh Patrick. Comhghairdeas le gach duine! Deposit Return Scheme
We are proud to run the Deposit Return Scheme at school. Every Thursday morning, we will collect plastic bottles and aluminium cans in our new orange returns bin which will be located at the hall door. Thank you to members of the PA who researched and applied for the scheme and got the bin delivered to the school. The money raised will go towards the funding of our new play space.
