The
Titanic
Exhibition

Picture

An essay by Sophia Gray - 4th class

On Tuesday the 20th of April, 2010 our school went to “The Titanic exhibition” in City West Hotel. We waited in the waiting room and soon the tour guide came in and introduced himself and gave us boarding passes. He told us later in the tour we would find out later if our character had survived or not. We went into the first room which had a bell from the Titanic which Fredrick Fleet who was the look out for the crows nest rang 3 times for a warning that he saw an iceberg. In the next room he told us about Harland and Wolff -  the people who built the Titanic and there was a model of the ship in a glass box. Anything that was in a glass box was from the actual Titanic. In another room there was the most difficult artefact to get, which was the money. The preservation process included: 1) wash 2) desalinate 3)freeze 4)vacuum dry 5)apply water soluble wax. In another room there was a replica of a 1st class cabin and it had a double bed a table and chair and a chaise. Then in that room again there was all the cutlery from the Titanic and there were even chips in the plates and then there was the 3rd class cabin which had 2 bunk beds and a table and a light . In another room a bottle of champagne 98 years old was discovered and there was still champagne in the bottle !!!!!! . The insurance cost for this bottle is £1.5 million!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

In another room there is a huge ice-berg !!!!!! . Made out of real ice with hand prints on it as well and everyone touched it and it was freezing!. There was a projection on the carpet of a lifeboat with a capacity for 47 people and there were 45 of us so we all got on it and loads of people fell out so our tour guide was trying to make a point that,  that  is how lots of people died. Then we came to the end and we found out if we survived the Titanic or not,  mainly 1st class mums and children survived .And that was the end of our tour of the Titanic exhibition.

I hope my essay about my trip to the Titanic Exhibition gives you a good idea about what happened on the day the Titanic sank !

An essay by Megan Heeney - 3rd class

On Tuesday the 20th of April 3rd up to 6th class went to The Titanic Exhibition. It was in Citywest Dublin and we got the bus there. When we got there we were a bit early so the hotel gave us a waiting room and we waited for our guide to come. Our guide’s name was Henry and he gave us a ticket called a boarding pass which had the name of a person that sailed on the Titanic.

We first looked at the bell that Fredrick Fleet, the lookout in the crows nest rang when he saw the ice berg looming ahead . Then we looked at two pictures of the men that had the idea to build the Titanic. After that we looked at a video of men making the Titanic. We also saw a first class cabin which was very luxurious and a third class cabin which was very basic and had just two sets of bunk beds. The person I got on my card was a third class passenger on the ship.

We saw old money which was found in the sea and was very hard to recover. The money had to be washed, frozen and laminated to preserve it. We also saw a bottle of champagne . A scientist that tasted the champagne said it was the nicest he ever had tasted. We also saw a replica of the ice berg the Titanic hit.

Then Henry asked all of 3rd to 6th to stand where the light made a picture of a life boat. Then he said sit down and as we did me and two other girls fell out of the light. Henry said that’s what would have happened if it was a real life boat.

I really enjoyed my day out at the Titanic exhibition and at the end I found out that my person and her children died.
