Our school small choir An article by Hannah Keogh (6th class) and Freya Daughton and Alana Moore (5th class)
Our school small choir was formed in 2011 by Mrs. Horgan, the infant teacher. We have 17 participants from 3rd to 6th class. Thirteen of us are also in the National Children's Choir (NCC). We are split up into three groups, altos, sopranos and descants. We have to learn a repertoire of 16 challenging songs in a variety of musical styles including opera, musicals, folk and ballads. Many of the songs are also in different languages including Irish, French, Latin and Italian. On the 30th of April 2013, we will sing at regional concert in Ardee Co. Louth with children from other schools. If we are lucky, some of us may sing at the National Concert in the National Concert Hall Dublin. At both concerts we will get the opportunity to sing with an orchestra. During the Christmas season, the small choir go down to Kilbrew Nursing home to sing Christmas carols for the residents. We also sing at mass and special school occasions like Communion and Conformation. Last year 2012 we competed in the Navan Choral Festival and we came back with 3rd place. We sang the “Primary School Song” and “Young Peter the Fiddler”. We hope to enter the festival again in 2014!
