Red Team win Sports Day!!
Christopher Conlan

On Friday, the 22nd of June we had our annual Sports Day. I was on the red team, captained by Caoimhe and Dylan and managed by Ms. McWalter. In the morning we did stations. The first one was the memory game where you went into a room and you had to remember 30 items. Then we did the hula hoop run. One person would take a hula hoop, run up, add it to the pile and then run back and tag their partner. The loop run was next, where we had to run as many laps as possible with the baton. Practicing the baton change was important. The other stations were skipping, World Cup trivia quiz and dribbling. Games came next. We had rounders, everyone had a turn to bat. It was important to pick the order of batters wisely to get the infants home. Soccer and Gaelic were next. The infants would play one half and then the Senior School would play the other half. The scores were then combined. Finally, class races and school relay took place. The relay was very important for points at the end and our red team won the relay as well as winning points in some of the class races. In the end when the scores were added up it was very close between White and Red but the Reds won out! It was a great day!!!

A Trip to Tayto Park
Johnny Cahalan

First, Second, Fifth and Sixth classes we kindly invited to Tayto Park on the 14th of June. Parents dropped their children directly to the park at 9am. The day started with some filming for the website and then we were split into two groups. One of the Tayto Park staff, Orla, took us around the zoo. After the zoo we went on the rides, such as the Cú Chulainn, the Viking Voyage, the Rotator and the Air Race. Then another staff member, Cian, very kindly got us some ice-cream. At the end of the day we were allowed to go on one more ride so most of us chose the Cú Chulainn again! Our parents collected us at 2.40pm. Everyone thought it was a brilliant day!!!

Family Fun Day
Ben Ronan & Eoin McDermott

On Sunday, May 27th St. Andrew's National School, Curragha and St. , Patrick's National School, Ardcath took part in the annual Family Fun Day in Cushenstown Athletic Club. There were several events to earn tokens for your school, including sprints, high jump, hang tough, musical chairs, boot throw, penalty shoot out, parents' tug of war, parents' novelty races, cupcake competition and ring toss. At the end the water relay took place. Both schools were positioned on either side of the field. Each had four buckets of water with which to attempt to fill the large bucket in the centre. Many of the students didn't bother attempting to get the water in the bucket but made a huge effort to throw water at their friends instead!! There was a raffle at the end with prizes such as La Bucca vouchers, Camp Curragha vouchers, hampers and many more. All in all it was a great day. Both school principals got dunked at the end of the day. We enjoyed it very much and hope the pupils who take part next year enjoy it as much as we did!

On the 12th of June third to sixth classes went to the Cumann na mBunscol Championships at Claremont Stadium. We left school at 8.45am for the short trip. The journey wasn't long. When we arrived we dropped our bags in the hall and made our way to the track. The first event of the day was the long jump which included Ella, Zara, David and James from our school. Then the sprints took place with Aisling, Grace, Niamh, Alannah, Conor, Mylo and Nick competing. Aisling, Grace and Niamh all won sprint gold!! After a short break Jane, Charles, PJ and Isabelle competed in the ball throw and again we were fortunate to take home bronze with Jane coming in third place. Then it was time for the long distance with Jamie, Kirsty, Christopher, Lara, Larissa, Dylan, Johnny and I competing. Christopher won gold in his 600m! Everyone was very proud. There was  a chip van and we also had sweets and lots of water! For the relay Carly, Aisling, Rachel and Shauna ran for the girls. Thomas, Kevin, Ben and Eoin came 4th in the final! That was the last event of the day - we all had a great day and were very tired after it all!

Our confirmation took place on the 26th of April 2018 in St. Andrew's Church, Curragha. it was a beautiful ceremony. There several soloists including Caoimhe, Shauna, Aisling, Zara and Phoebe. There were different outfits, all very unique. After the mass we all went into the school hall where there were minerals and sandwiches. We were presented with a certificate by Bishop Michael Smith. It was a great day!

On the following Monday, to further celebrate the Sacrament of Confirmation we went to Rathbeggan Lakes. We completed many activities including the zip line, canoeing, rock climbing. On behalf of Fifth and Sixth classes we would like to thank Aoife Egan of Four Star Pizza who delivered pizza to us after all of our activities. It was a great day overall!!!

On Tuesday, June 25th third, fourth, fifth and sixth classes went on their school tour to Derrymore Springs. The bus left at 8.15am and arrived at 9.30am. It began with a nature walk through Derrymore Springs Forest and then we played 'Tyre Ball'. We were split into four groups and each group had to aim the ball into the centre of the tyre. It wasn't as easy as it sounds! Then we were provided with wetsuits and third, fourth, fifth and sixth were split into 2 groups. One group went to the inflatable water park while the others went kayaking. After doing the two activities we had lunch we were back on the bus for 2 o'clock. We arrived back at school for 3.15pm. Everyone thought it was a great day!!

Junior School Tour

On Wednesday, June 20th the Junior School went on their school tour. The bus left school at 9.30am to go to Dublin Zoo. 26 children went from 1st and 2nd and 29 from Infants. The first animals they went to see were the lions. They learned a lot about the lions. Some of the things they learned were that lions are very sleepy animals. They can sleep up to 18 hours per day. Then they went to see the snow leopards and then the elephants. The elephants were very popular - in fact the elephant was the favourite animal amongst first and second class. For lunch everyone went to the play forest. Later on after lunch they went to Zoorassic Park which was where the lizards, geckos and snakes are kept. The bus returned home at 2.45pm. Everyone really enjoyed the tour!
