Meath Cross Country Championships

An article by Christopher Conlon
2nd Class

In April St. Andrew's N.S. and other schools from Co. Meath gathered at Fairyhouse Racecourse to participate in the Cross Country Championships.  The race was postponed in March due to hail and snow, but unfortunately the weather in April was not much better and the running conditions were very difficult because the ground was so wet and mucky.  A lot of the children had to wear studs so that they would not slip during the race.  Ms. Ronan worked really hard with us and had us well prepared for the race.  We practised as much as we could at school.  Ms Ronan taught us skills like how to pace ourselves for the race and work on our fitness. St. Andrews wore yellow t-shirts for the racing.  At the starting line there were so many competitors that it was hard to find a starting spot and the beginning of the race was very rough and busy with all the runners crowded together.  Our school did really well and won individual and team medals with Ist prize in the 5th class girls team event.  Everybody really enjoyed the day and it was a great team experience for St. Andrew's N.S.

GAA Blitz

An article by
Alannah McKane
4th Class

A few weeks ago third and fourth class went to Donaghmore Ashbourne GAA club. First when we went in we saw the other teams we would be playing against. Next we warmed up, then we were put into four different groups. Everyone made friends and then they explained the rules.m Next we played the first match. It was really fun and interesting .We played about eight matches and then in the final match the winning goal was scored to decide which team had won. When the winning goal was scored everybody cheered and everybody was so happy for the team that won. Then we gathered our things and left. Everyone had a great time.It was a great day, I really enjoyed it and hope we can do it again.

Navan Choral Festival

An article by Carly Parsons
1st Class

The Choral Festival took place in Navan, Co Meath. As a class we took a bus to the festival with our music teacher. We had to wear full uniform and make sure we had tidy hair. Each group sang two songs. Our songs were "Beauty and the Beast and "Humpty Dumpty". We all enjoyed the competition. St Andrews won first place! We were all very happy.

Cloghertown Soccer Tournament

An article by Johnny Cahalan
4th Class

In April 2016 4th, 5th and 6th class were invited to play in a tournament in Cloghertown. There were a lot of teams from local schools like Garristown, Ardcath and Cushenstown. We entered two teams. The tournament was played over two days. We had about 8 matches and won most of them. The other team were undefeated. It was a tough competition and Garristown had very big lads who did really well. Everybody enjoyed the competition. Thanks to the parentswho drove us there and our coach David. We all did our best!
