this super guide giving tips for staying
safe while learning online

Knit Stitch

Today our 11 volunteers from 5th and 6th class took part in their first 'Knit Stitch' session. Knit-Stitch, pioneered by www.woolinschool.com/ is a project promoting inter-generational learning, creating new possibilities and connections between children and older adults through a heritage of knitting.  We hope that this will be a learning opportunity which will enrich all involved, encouraging understanding and respect between generations. Today we met some of the residents of Kilbrew Nursing Home via Zoom and learned how to roll out skeins. We are the very first nursing home and school in Ireland to try this project and we couldn't be prouder!

WONDERFUL WILDFLOWERS

This year, on World Down Syndrome Day in March, James gave a gift of wildflower seeds to his classmates. The message on the package was "We all grow at different rates, and that's ok". Today we brought our wildflowers back to school. Look at how diverse and beautiful they are! Some tall, some small, some colourful, some quite delicate looking and some very strong - but they are all beautiful in spite of and because of their differences!

We wore European jerseys, t-shirts and flag colours. We ate a continental breakfast of Spanish oranges, French croissants and Danish pastries while listening to French Café music. We painted EU flags and made EU bunting and then we ate Pizza Italiano, Belgian chocolate, Dutch doughnuts and German pretzels!
Vive L'Europe!! What a great day

5th & 6th Class created stunning artwork
portraying the path followed by Our Lord during Easter Week

Cumann na mBunscoil Challenge - Class Winners

We created artwork inspired by the song 'Grace' which tells the tragic tale of the marriage of Joseph Plunkett and Grace Gifford the night before his execution for his part in the 1916 Rising.

The Vampire Teacher

By Carly & Eoghan

There was a teacher in a school
That was very run down
It made all the children frown
A child was very bad
So the vampire teacher got mad
She brought her to the closet
And bit her head clean off
That was the last time
They saw poor Sally Goff
As the kids were out at play
The vampire teacher waited for her prey
They came back in
And she ate them straight away
Then the parents arrived too late
To find out their kids had been ate!
The teacher started sucking the parents blood
Then dropped them with a thud
The principal found out what was going on
So the vampire teacher fled at dawn

The Sorceress
Teacher

By Claire & Charles

The sorceress teacher
Was a difficult creature
Her evil magic could lead to something tragic
When she loses her temper
The children remember
To hide under a desk
Or things will get grotesque
If you dare to speak
Her magic will leak
She'll conjure a needle
And sew your mouth shut
So the other children
Won't open their mouths to say 'but'
They run home to tell
But she conjures a spell
And if you try to sneak
You'll be in detention for a week!!

The Zombie
Teacher

By Louis & Aisling

I have a zombie teacher
He's a mysterious creature
When we're in the classroom
He always has a witch's broom
When at this desk
He always looks grotesque
He likes to sing
And he wears a big ring
It goes bling bling
We all got a fright
Because he demolished a beer
But we gave him a cheer
He eats coal to spit fire
For sure I'm a liar!

The Zombie
Teacher

By Ciara, James & Jamie E

My zombie teacher
Came back from the dead
He walks around the school
Carrying his head
Yes, I know he is kinda scary
Once I saw him kill a fairy
As he stumbles down the hall
You know there's trouble to all!

If you give him a fright
He might take a bite
So what I'm gonna do
Is stay out of sight!

The Werewolf
Teacher

By Daisy, Jocelyn & Juliette

The werewolf teacher is hungry now
Thinks of food while the children row
Suddenly all the children quiet down
To the teacher's surprise so did the entire town
"What is this?" the teacher roars at them
Then suddenly the class broke into mayhem
The teacher ran out with his hands on his ears
And all of the children shouted "CHEERS"
They had finally gotten rid
Of the werewolf teacher
Boy he was an awful creature!

The Werewolf Teacher

By Jane and Jamie W

On the outside he is a teacher
On the inside he's a beastly creature
Sometimes he is in the classroom
Other times he howls at the moon
I was absolutely terrified
On the inside I cried
All the children froze in fear
After watching him demolish a deer
We thought the deer would be alright
Until we saw him take a bite
We were held hostage all night
But we didn't go down without a fight
We all decided on a plan
To hit him with a van
We hit him so very hard
He flew into the graveyard!

The Vampire Teacher

By Leah, Holly & Emma B

The Vampire fuming with anger
Not such rage seen by the children
She stared into the children's blue eyes
Her fangs sharpened and grinning with glee
She walked over towards Ben
He had no friends
She walked over and could smell bacon fries
Only from the finest chip van
Nothing else mattered only the bacon fries
She snatched them into her arms
And jumped out the window
No-one knows where she took the bacon fries

The Werewolf Teacher

By Kirsty & Imogen

It was Halloween Day, turning into night
The moonlit sky was very bright
In the classroom the teacher stands
Suddenly claws appear on his hands
His transformation is nearly complete
The students see more claws on his feet
He let out a howl and began to growl
The children were terrified
As their teacher was a beast
They prayed and prayed
As if they were a priest
Their teacher was a werewolf
With incredibly sharp teeth
They crawled under their desks
To hide beneath
Suddenly the sky turned dark and bleak
All the children began to shriek
That night, all the children disappeared
You have to admit....
That was weird!

The Sorceress Teacher

By Gina & Rachel

The Sorceress teacher teaches her class
When suddenly the children turn to glass
Then all the children come back to life
But the teacher vanishes, nowhere in sight
Quickly all the children make trouble
With a cup of potion they all grow double
The teacher walks in and lets out a cry
Cos to her surprise they've tripled in size
She gave them a potion
And BOOM they're gone
It breaks into dawn and the teacher lingers on
And says.... 'Oh well.. they're gone'

The Vampire Teacher

By Tara, Maggi & Leo

My vampire teacher thinks I'm very good
If I'm not she will suck my blood
She sleeps during the day
She is out at night
She's not a very good teacher
Because she gives the children a fright
Her eyes are so bright
When she takes flight during the night
Her teeth are so white
She hates daylight - it gives her a fright
But that's alright
She is a school teacher
But she acts like a preacher

The Werewolf Teacher

By Grace & Lucas

The children were sitting in the classroom
WIth a broom at noon
Wearing Nike like Van Dijk and his bike
WIth his howl you can call him Dale
He likes to sleep on a bale
And eat some kale
Doing maths with Ms, Dale
Is like eating kale

We focused on Shape and Space for Maths Week and engaged in daily station work. We analysed shapes investigating acute and obtuse angles and total internal angles. We built a tessellation wall and discovered the tessellation properties of hexagons, squares, rectangles and right angled, equilateral and isoceles triangles. We perfected our compass skills and created geometric art. We created complex symmetrical patterns and finally played Coordinate Geometry Battleship to develop understanding of x and y coordinates.
