The first Killossery competition this year took place on the 29th of September 2019. Nobody from St.Andrews N.S competed in the novice individual , but several people competed in the open individual. Kirsty came first in this competition on her pony Shannie (Neuaddparc Spring Song) who came first. Then the next competition took place on the 13th of October and unfortunately none of the pupils from S.t.Andrews placed although we had a great day! The third week (17th of November) luckily two people placed in the individuals. Kevin Doyle on Charmer (Northstar) came 6th and Kirsty Greene on Shannie who came 3rd. The 4th week ( 24th of November ) Imogen Horgan came 6th on Fleur ( Wilderness Tulip). Finally in the most recent week, the 9th of December Kirsty Greene on Shannie yet again placed coming in 2nd. There are two more weeks of exciting showjumping to come. ******* On the first week in Killossery we came in 2nd place. Also Emma fell off because her pony was being bold! On the second week Charles forgot his course but we still came 3rd. On the 4th week Kevin knocked a fence and Imogen had a refusal so we didn’t qualify for the jump off. On the 5th week Kevin got the second highest time and they came 3rd in the jump off and Emma got a great time as well. The people that were on the team on the first week were Emma, Charles, Kirsty and Imogen. The junior team is beating us at the moment and the people on that team are Maggie,Tara, Harry and Juliette. We are very grateful to Mark and Mary Caffrey for supplying us with the coats and numnahs. |

We went to the Epic famine Museum on the 12th of December. We went to the Jeanie Johnston before it and it was great. Then we went to the Epic Famine Museum which was across the road. We sat down in the coffee shop and had a quick snack. After a while our tour guide Orlagh told us to stand by the wall and she asked us what we know about the famine. Then we started our tour learning all about Irish emigration. We learned about the Irish diaspora, famous people from Ireland and where most people emigrated to. The part where we learned about Irish diaspora was really interesting because some of the most famous people ever have irish ancestry. We really enjoyed the tours and afterwards we went to Burger King for some food. ****** On the 12th of December 5th and 6th went to the Jeanie Jonhston. When we went on board Laura our tour guide brought us on to the top deck and gave us a bit of history about when the Jeanie Johnston was built, where it was built and how many voyages the Jeanie Johnston sailed. Afterward she told us a few facts and she let us have a look around the deck and we soon went down to under the deck and we saw where the passengers slept, ate and lived for 46 days because that is how long as the voyage would take. After a look around Laura started to tell us about what happened while the ship was sailing. The Jeanie Johnston sailed 16 times. Laura told us that there was a doctor checking that passengers boarding would not be carrying a disease on board and the Jeanie Johnston had never lost a life in all 16 voyages because of this. The Jeanie Johnston sank to the bottom of the ocean on its final voyage. It took 9 days to sink and at this point the crew and the family that bought the ship had been sailing on it. Suddenly the ship was filling up with water where the food was kept. The crew knew they had to get to higher ground so first they climbed to the top roof of the captain’s quarters and then the crew and family climbed up the 2 masts. Soon a Dutch ship spotted them and rescued them all after 9 days hanging onto the mast. Because of this the Jeanie Johnston to date still holds the title of letting no human die on her voyages. |
